Relieving Stress with Hypnosis
What is stress?
A good working definition of stress is:
"A gap between the demands you perceive are being made on you and your perceived resources to meet those demands"
What are stressors?
Stressors are situations or events that can cause us to be stressed. Once these are identified we can take steps to modify either the situation or the way that we view the situation. Stress can be both work or home related and indeed is often a combination of the two.
Stress
Stress is a normal, natural, and even helpful aspect of an organism's life. It prepares the organism to deal with difficult and trying circumstances and conditions. You probably know this also as the "Fight or Flight" reaction. However, for us in the modern world, we may have a stress reaction where, without proper training, we are left with no alternatives and end up with ongoing, unrelenting stress from which we have no real relief. Fighting and fleeing are not viable options to most of the stress inducing situations both within our work environment and our social relations.
Some common causes of stress in daily life
- A lack of power or influence over one's working life
- Excessive work pressure caused by time constraints and/or complexity
- Not knowing what is expected of you
- Not knowing how your manager views your work
- Bullying and other forms of harassment
- Working hours which limit your social life
- Periods of organizational change
- Inflexible repetitiveness of routine or work
- Promotion or the lack of it
- Bereavement
- Family illness
- Separation from a partner
- Moving from your home to a new place
- Children's behavior or educational performance
- Interpersonal family conflicts or other social difficulties
Do not be surprised or concerned if you suffer stress for any of these reasons. It is a perfectly normal response. When they are not overpowering, learning coping skills and examining your thought processes will enable you to look at these situations in a more positive manner and to take steps that will reduce your stress responses.
On the other hand, unrelenting Stress can lead to many negative life consequences. It can enervate and debilitate. It can lead to excessive alcohol intake and heavy smoking, reliance on pharmaceutical drugs, even illegal drug use. Anger, grief, overeating and depression are all possible consequences of ongoing and unalleviated continuous stress in one's life.
Fortunately, no matter what the external outside conditions are that are causing you stress, you can develop new ways to deal with it internally through the Advanced Hypnosis Center's Program in Stress Management. Through the program at Advanced Hypnosis you will learn new, effective ways to deal with and combat stress that will be implemented by your unconscious mind automatically. You will generate new conscious habits and utilize new techniques that will minimize, and even eliminate, stress in areas where it formally was dominating and interfering with your enjoyment of life, and stopping you from living a positive, fulfilling life.
Sometimes inadequate ways of dealing with stress are actually learned earlier in life from those around us like parents and teachers, who also may have given us what are only weak and inadequate ways of relating with, and coping with, the outside world.
With hypnosis these poor habits can quickly and easily be changed to more effective and powerful ones. Your original poor responses can be replaced by more resourceful ones, so that things that were formally generating debilitating amounts of stress in your life, will more easily be dealt with, and no longer cause damage to your psychological and physical well-being.
Relief From Stress Related Problems
One of the most valuable results from Advanced Hypnosis's Stress Management Program is the relief you will enjoy from many stress induced symptoms, such as anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, overeating and the need for drugs, such as alcohol, nicotine from smoking, pharmaceutical drugs such as tranquilizers, anti-depressants and anxiety relievers, and of course, illegal drugs such as marijuana or cocaine. Some of these needs may have other causes beyond stress, but where stress is the main factor, you will find you will have less need for these things.
Ongoing Life Enhancement
You will also develop more self-confidence and self-esteem and be more resourceful. When called for, you will be able to take action in your world. You will be able to make changes in your environment, and see that those things which are capable of being changed so that they generate less stress in your life, are effectively dealt with and changed for the better. Whether it's a work problem or a relationship difficulty, you will, through our program, find that you have the resources to implement positive changes in the world around you.

Three levels of stress control
You can take measures to counteract stress at three levels:
Manage the demands. For example, you could:
- Improve your working conditions
- Start saying 'no' to extra work
- Seek a less demanding job
- Manage your time better
Increase your resources
- Build regular relaxation into your day
- Cut down on caffeine - found in cola, tea, chocolate and especially (as you might expect) coffee. Caffeine mimics adrenaline and so will raise your background stress levels. For many people cutting down on coffee is all you need to do, and will bring an enormous return in reducing your stress levels for very little effort
- Cut down on alcohol and cigarettes as well
- Eat more healthily - cut down or eliminate sugar, and high glycemic foods, that act just like sugar. Get more fresh fruit and vegetables
- Widen your interests in life, and learn new skills
Change your perceptions
- You respond not to external reality, but to your internal representation of that reality after your sensory input has been put through your perceptual filters. If you don't like the internal representation (i.e. the world as you perceive it) then changing the filters will change your perception of the world.
- Use peripheral vision to 'stop the world' instantly
